"Hopefully next year we can go back to our big alumni gathering that we do for homecoming, which is kind of what homecoming's all about. If something had to get canceled at the last minute - which seems to be the case with some games lately - it would just be too hard to try to get a hold of a ton of people and tell them things are canceled," she said. "The only thing was we didn't have a large alumni gathering like we typically would do.

Howes said she is glad students are able to enjoy a full slate of homecoming activities, but said one tradition is still missing. There will be a pep rally in the Manistee Catholic Central gymnasium at 6:30 p.m., which will be followed by the annual bonfire. MCC students will play bubble soccer on Friday at 1 p.m.

Students will enjoy a movie and popcorn in the classroom Thursday afternoon. On Thursday, homecoming king and queen candidates will give speeches after Mass, with Mass slated begin at 9 a.m. Diners have the option to dine in or carry out, and proceeds will go toward a student trip to Washington D.C. Students enjoyed an ice cream social during Tuesday's lunch and MCC's Washington Group is holding a spaghetti dinner today from 4-7 p.m. Monday was Dynamic Duo Day, Tuesday was Career Day, today is Pajama Day, Thursday will be Crazy Hat and/or Sock Day and students will wear red, white and blue on Friday for Saber Pride Day. Students will participate in dress-up days throughout the week. "It was a fun theme - not something typical for a homecoming."
"They've decorated the halls pretty well according to their retro video game themes, and they were able to incorporate Bible quotes along with their themes into the hall decorations, which was pretty cool," she said. Howes said all the grades did a nice job decorating the school to make this year's homecoming a festive experience. "It's kind of funny because some of these 'retro' video games don't seem that retro to me, but apparently they are in the students' eyes." "That is a pretty unique theme," Howes said. The theme for this year's homecoming is retro video games, with the senior class choosing Pac-Man, the juniors opting for Super Mario, the sophomores selecting Space Invaders, the freshmen choosing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, eighth grade students going with Galaga, seventh graders picking Kirby's Adventure and sixth grade students selecting Centipede. Senior representatives are Olivia Wilkosz and Alex Shriver, junior representatives are Abigail Logan and Matthew Gunia, sophomore reps are Violet Snyder and Ian Madsen while Lila Ann Bechtel and Tyler Hallead will represent the freshman class. The king candidates are Brendan McComb, Gabe Gunia and Kyle McLinden. This year's queen candidates are Josie Ziehm, Elena Pizana and Mallory Miekle.
